The Secret to Rapid Psychological Evolution

Daily Self-Reflection in my opinion is one of the easiest and fastest methods of making progress in life.

I make plenty of mistakes throughout the day by saying something stupid, doing something silly, or simply not doing something that I should. These things do not define who I am unless I accept them as being a part of me. And I don’t accept them as a part of me because every night I take the time to alter these circumstances in my mind. I consequently learn from my mistakes and hopefully become a little wiser in the days to come icon wink The Secret to Rapid Psychological Evolution

I Am Not My Past If I Learn from It

The Past is the Past. There is no point in looking back on it unless I have something to learn about myself.

If I suddenly make a mistake in the present by saying something stupid, doing something irresponsible, or simply not doing something I know I should, than the moment I realize and learn from my mistake or indiscretion, is the moment I let go of the past and become renewed in the present moment.

I am therefore NOT MY PAST if I learn from my past in order to improve myself in the present, and effectively prepare myself for the future.

A Single “Quote” Can Transform Your Life

When I go away on long trips or holidays I like to take a book of inspirational and thought provoking quotes with me. I find this to be a far more effective use of my down time.

I will read a quote, then contemplate for a few moments asking:

    - How does this relate to my life at the moment?
    - How is it a reflection of who I was, who I am, and who I am becoming?
    - How can I incorporate this message into my life?
    - How could my future be different if I viewed life from this perspective?
    - And so forth…

The worst thing I could do is read the quote without contemplation or reflection. It would be a plain waste of time. I rather reflect upon 5 quotes within 20 minutes than read 100 quotes over that time, and have nothing to show for the time I spent reading them.

A Period of Self-Reflection Goes a Long Way

One of the best techniques I have found that helps me to find my motivation throughout the day involves a period of self-reflection before going to sleep.

I lie in bed, close my eyes and begin chronologically plowing through the day’s events as they happened. Once completed, I start again at the beginning of the day and ADJUST circumstances and events as I had wanted them to be.

The 3rd time around I quickly envision the way my day will be tomorrow. I stay grounded in realism, yet optimistic in thought.

Finally, when tomorrow morning arrives I have a clear vision of how things will transpire. This helps motivate me on a daily basis – even when things don’t go as planned – because at the end of the day I will lie in bed once again and change events and circumstances to my liking just as I did the night before icon wink A Period of Self Reflection Goes a Long Way

The Process of Change Brings Wisdom

Transitioning through different phases of Life can be very difficult. At times these changes are forced upon us by events and circumstances, while at other times we force them upon ourselves through our own limiting thoughts, beliefs and decisions. However, change doesn’t have to be painful when we see it for what it actually is.

Change is nothing more than a natural progression that helps us acquire deeper wisdom and understanding about ourselves, our life and our own abilities.

    Imagine Posing Naked

Imagine you were posing naked in front of people.

    - What would you think? See? Hear?
    - What would you say to yourself?
    - How would you see the World?

When we remove the layers of clothing i.e. “emotional masks” – that hide our true selves from society, we begin to see the world in a new light. In fact we begin to see ourselves as we really are, and that in itself is one of the greatest gifts that we could ever receive.

The Past Can Equal the Future

I was just sitting here imagining how life will be in 5 years… imagining all my achievements, victories, experiences and a plethora of other wonderful things. Yet, it also crossed my mind to think BACK 5 years and ask myself:

    - Am I different?
    - Is life different?
    - Have things really changed for me over 5 long years?
    - Or am I still the same?

Could the answers to these questions predict my future in 5 years time?

    Adversity Brings with it Opportunity

When life gets tough and setbacks turn my life upside down, I always tend to ground myself by listening to an inspirational song or reflecting upon a “quote” that helps me gain a different perspective and understanding of my life circumstances. This new perspective often helps me find the hidden opportunity within every adversity.
