Evolution is a result of life testing biological organisms and pushing them to their limits.

Evolution takes these organisms out of their Comfort Zones and onto a new and better path. Those who adapt, continue to evolve. While those who procrastinate become the Dodo’s of this world. This is how Dinosaurs became Birds and grew wings, and this is how we too evolve and take flight towards the mountain peaks of our dreams.

There are many reasons why people procrastinate. And likewise there are many solutions for each of these procrastinators. However, when it comes down to it the key to beating procrastination is to associate more PAIN to procrastinating, than to NOT procrastinating. This could simply involve imagining a horrible, dark, grim future if I continue procrastinating, or better yet, each time I recognize I am procrastinating, I will inflict pain by PINCHING myself in the same spot. My brain soon realizes that procrastination may not be such a good idea

Simple, yet potentially very powerful technique.

You will have to excuse me. I can’t write this update because I don’t have time, it’s not the right time, my backside hurts from sitting at the computer, I have a headache, I am being constantly distracted by this fly buzzing around the room, I am unable to think clearly because of the wind raging outside, I am preoccupied with more important tasks that just can’t wait, and to be very frank, my hand hurts from all this typing

Hang on… I just made all these excuses and yet I am no better off. In fact, I feel terrible, incapable, sad, discouraged and absolutely worthless. If only I spent my time DOING instead of EXCUSING… If only I spent my time searching for SOLUTIONS rather than focusing on PROBLEMS… If only I spent my time on what I CAN DO instead of what I CAN’T DO… If only… than maybe I would discover that life is filled with endless POSSIBILITIES and OPPORTUNITIES rather than roadblocks and problems.

For a long time my biggest excuse for procrastinating was labeling myself as a Perfectionist…

“I want to do things perfectly, and for that reason I am spending all this time planning and organizing my thoughts and ideas. This is NOT Procrastination!!!! Can’t you see that I am making progress with my ideas? I mean, what’s the point of doing something half-heartedly? I either do it right or I don’t do it at all”

I was literally pulling out every excuse I could find to justify my reasons for procrastinating. And on top of this I actually thought I was making good progress. Well I might have been making marginal progress, however it wasn’t the RIGHT TYPE OF PROGRESS that would get me to where I wanted to go. I was quite effectively stuck within my Comfort Zone

At times I would spend hour after hour, day after day, and week after week putting things off. I would make endless excuses such as not having enough time, not considering the task to be of importance, and making up other excuses that are simply too embarrassing to mention And yet when I finally started the task, I wondered why in the world I had put it off for so long.

Today I use the 11 Minute Rule. I tell myself that I will work on the task for ONLY 11 minutes, and then if I choose to I will stop – or NOT. It’s funny though, how 11 minutes soon turns into 30 minutes, 1 hour, and by the time I know it the task is done

Maybe the perfect moment is NOW… and maybe within this moment there is an ideal opportunity waiting for me that will not present itself ever again… OR maybe the Perfect Moment shall never come, but why should this stop me from taking my chances and making it a lot of fun
