    The True Meaning of Optimism

True Optimism is about “Solution Oriented Realism”. It’s about taking into account the Good, Bad and the Ugly, then flexibly weighing up the Problems and Opportunities with the Resources one has at one’s disposal, then deciding whether sacrificing in the MOMENT will reap Big rewards in the future.

Yes… True Optimism is about knowing when to take 2 steps backwards before moving forwards once again.

The other type of Optimism is the kind where people don’t seem to feel the weight of their problems on their shoulders, they don’t see the weeds that are destroying their dreams, and they fail to understand that life isn’t a straight line forward, but rather a curved line that turns in on itself time after time before moving forward once again.

Optimism Clouds Our Sense of Reality

Years ago when I first started reading personal development books, I could not get enough of the “Positive Thinking Movement”. These books encouraged me to think Optimistically under all conditions and circumstances. At the time this seemed like a great idea. However, it ended up hurting me.

Thinking Optimistically all of the time clouded my SENSE OF REALITY and locked me away from experiencing seemingly NEGATIVE EMOTIONS that otherwise could have served me if I had understood the messages they were sending. As a result, being a pure Optimist wore me down mentally, and actually robbed me of my ability to think flexibly :(
