Emotional Discomfort is the Key to Success

A personal Mentor of mine once told me that in order to succeed in life I must become comfortable with feeling emotionally uncomfortable for an indefinite amount of time. Only then will I develop the necessary mental stamina, strength and resilience to deserve to accomplish my goals and objectives.

Furthermore, he informed me that goals aren’t achieved but rather they are ATTRACTED by the person I become as a result of the consistent discomfort I successfully and proactively face as I move through life.

Perfectionism is Just an Excuse for Procrastinators

For a long time my biggest excuse for procrastinating was labeling myself as a Perfectionist…

“I want to do things perfectly, and for that reason I am spending all this time planning and organizing my thoughts and ideas. This is NOT Procrastination!!!! Can’t you see that I am making progress with my ideas? I mean, what’s the point of doing something half-heartedly? I either do it right or I don’t do it at all” icon razz Perfectionism is Just an Excuse for Procrastinators

I was literally pulling out every excuse I could find to justify my reasons for procrastinating. And on top of this I actually thought I was making good progress. Well I might have been making marginal progress, however it wasn’t the RIGHT TYPE OF PROGRESS that would get me to where I wanted to go. I was quite effectively stuck within my Comfort Zone icon sad Perfectionism is Just an Excuse for Procrastinators

Anxiety is Only an Interpretation of Reality

I have suffered from bouts of anxiety many times over. It causes the heart to race, the temperature to rise, and the body to shake. Moreover it has stifled my progress and prevented me from stepping outside of my Comfort Zone.

However, I do now realize that anxiety is just like any other emotion – it’s simply an interpretation I have made about circumstances that has forced me to feel this way. Hence, if I change my interpretation or the MEANING of my experience, I will therefore be better able to control how my body responds – and consequently reduce or eliminate my feelings of anxiety altogether.

The Key is to Ask Better Questions.

Within “Discomfort” Lies the Key to Success

Someone once asked me: What is one lesson you will teach your kids about life?

I said, “I will teach my kids that in order to live a happy, fulfilling and successful life, that they must make a habit of becoming comfortable with being emotionally uncomfortable for extended periods at a time.”

This essentially boils down to having the willingness to step outside your Comfort Zone every single day until your goals and objectives are achieved. This ain’t easy, but I know that it’s something that I must personally work on every day.
