Failure Does Not Exist Until Acknowledged

When running the 100 meter sprint the difference between failure and success is measured within hundreds of a second. The person who comes 1st succeeds, while everyone else fails. Yet…

Failure isn’t failure until I perceive it as such.
Failure isn’t failure until I believe it as such.
Failure isn’t failure unless I acknowledge that I have Given Up.

Bathtub Lessons: The Power of Resilience

Several years back I wanted to test my willpower and psychologically condition myself in an unusual yet potentially dangerous way. I filled the bathtub with hot water (cool enough to the touch yet uncomfortable at the some time) and I submerged myself up to my neck. I committed myself at that moment that I would not move until the water cooled down substantially and the discomfort subsided.

It was an absolutely arduous and extremely uncomfortable experience that I did manage to get through in the end. It was risky and potentially stupid. However, today whenever I need strength to get through circumstances in my life, I turn my attention to those incredibly uncomfortable moments within that bathtub and I find the resilience to pull through.

A Simple Method for Transforming Habits

Changing lifelong Habits can be extremely difficult to do. I have within my arsenal many great strategies and techniques that I picked up at Life Coaching School. I also spent several years studying NLP. However, when it comes down to it, many of these techniques tend to over-complicate the process, when in fact changing a Habit can at times be achieved by following simple suggestions that seem insignificant on the surface, yet very powerful in practice.

For me personally, the simple practice of daily Visualization works wonders. It doesn’t create change overnight, however it does create change progressively and subtly over time.

The Power of the Proactive Response

Success in any field of endeavor is built upon a mix of many different qualities. However, if I was to choose one quality that has helped me considerably throughout life, it is the quality of Responding Proactively to the events and circumstances of my life.

When emotions get out of hand, than mistakes are made, promises are broken, and Effective Thinking gets thrown out the door. It’s only when I am able to STOP… and consciously choose how I respond emotionally – in the most productive way – to people and the environment, that I obtain the clarity I need to get through the challenges standing in my way.

    Overcoming Emotional Turbulence

There have been many moments in my life when the forces of CHANGE decided to pull my life apart unexpectedly. During these times I would attempt to maintain my composure under the emotional turbulence by grounding myself in Familiarity – in things that provided me with a Sense of Purpose.

I would involve myself in activities that enabled me to gain a Sense of Certainty over my life. Furthermore, I would turn and consciously Reframe the Uncertainty of CHANGE into purposeful action that allowed me to perceive my circumstances as only one thread of a Bigger Canvas that I didn’t yet fully understand or comprehend.

This SENSE OF PURPOSE subsequently provided me with the confidence I needed to calm my emotions and focus on the journey ahead.

    Change Persona… Transform Your Perspective

I know that if I can change the way I feel about a certain situation, person or about my life, that I can effectively begin to see things from a different perspective, which can effectively open a flood of new opportunities that I hadn’t noticed before.

One of the best methods I have found that allows me to do this is to begin viewing my circumstances from a different Persona, eg. I would perceive my circumstances as a Child, as a Scientist, as an Artist, as a Detective, as a Professional Athlete, or as a Billionaire Entrepreneur, etc.

For instance I would ask myself:

    - How would a Child perceive this situation?
    - How would they feel about these circumstances?
    - What kinds of questions would they ask that would enable them to move forward proactively?

If Only I Stopped Making Endless Excuses

You will have to excuse me. I can’t write this update because I don’t have time, it’s not the right time, my backside hurts from sitting at the computer, I have a headache, I am being constantly distracted by this fly buzzing around the room, I am unable to think clearly because of the wind raging outside, I am preoccupied with more important tasks that just can’t wait, and to be very frank, my hand hurts from all this typing icon sad If Only I Stopped Making Endless Excuses

Hang on… I just made all these excuses and yet I am no better off. In fact, I feel terrible, incapable, sad, discouraged and absolutely worthless. If only I spent my time DOING instead of EXCUSING… If only I spent my time searching for SOLUTIONS rather than focusing on PROBLEMS… If only I spent my time on what I CAN DO instead of what I CAN’T DO… If only… than maybe I would discover that life is filled with endless POSSIBILITIES and OPPORTUNITIES rather than roadblocks and problems.

    The Secret to Happiness

There is really only one secret to Happiness. And that is Perspective.

No matter what is going on around me, no matter what problems I face, no matter how many people criticize me, judge me, or try to break me down emotionally, it doesn’t matter and it certainly doesn’t affect my level of happiness. And that’s because of my Perspective.

I see Problems as Challenges that make me better, tougher, stronger and more resilient than ever before. I hear Criticism and this Motivates me to prove others wrong. I even feel the emotional baggage that others dump on my shoulders and I understand at that very moment that it’s NOT ABOUT ME, but rather ALL ABOUT THEM! And so I smile icon smile The Secret to Happiness fully knowing that happiness rests securely in my hands icon smile The Secret to Happiness

Spark Your Motivation by Playing Games

Motivation is a funny thing. When I have it I can go without sleep, rest or food. However, when I don’t, I struggle to get out of bed icon sad Spark Your Motivation by Playing Games

I have found that one of the best ways to spark my motivation is to turn everything I do into a GAME. I ask myself:

“How can I make this fun and emotionally stimulating?”

Then I will sit for 5 to 10 minutes brainstorming all the ways I can think of that will add some spice and excitement to my tasks. I will literally consider any and every idea no matter how silly, because the FUNny thing is that sometimes the silliest of ideas are the most fun and enable me to find the motivation I need to get a job done icon biggrin Spark Your Motivation by Playing Games

The 3 Phases of Personal Development

I realized today that there are 3 Phases of Personal Development.

The 1st Phase belongs to those engrossed in pure motivational hype and no action.

The 2nd belongs to those who are fed up with motivational hype. They engross themselves in techniques and strategies for self-improvement.

The 3rd Phase belongs to Achievers who no longer care about techniques, but rather on attaining their own objectives.
